I just can’t do it! PDF Print E-mail

No, I don’t mean the film, wild horses and a man with a gun would struggle to get me to walk away from this script, the title refers to watching films with young actresses in. When I want to relax, I find myself looking for films about an older generation, or with an older cast, just so that I don’t look for ‘My Vera’. Caitlin and I get sent so many suggestions for our lead role, that it’s like a sport, the ‘can you find Vera’ games!

So what will we look for? It’s difficult to explain really. Obviously she will have to show us a complete range of emotions, to reflect the journey that Vera went through in this period of her life, but it’s more than that. I have often said that Directors need to prepare for an audition too, not just the actor. The director needs to be open and ready to feel something. I want an actress to get inside my head, to make me feel, to make me experience and most of all, to make me cry! I don’t mean cry as if this torment will ever end, but there’s a beauty in someone doing something well, wholeheartedly and being complete in what they do. That’s when you feel the emotion and experience that the actor is giving you.

So who is Vera? I don’t know yet, it’s simple. But when she grabs my attention, makes me feel, drags me into her world, then that’s the Vera we need.

A Waiting Game! PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 11 January 2010 23:00

Now Caitlin and I have launched the web-site, talked about casting, producers, locations and all the necessary stuff, we find this wonderful project slowing down a little. Like just about every film production without a major studio behind them, we are now on the lookout for that illusive finance deal. The next step for me, is to get over to Central Europe and source locations, start the casting process and to finalise the crew, even though I have some pretty talented people in place already. All of this, and the many jobs that go with it, needs to be paid for of course and before we can continue, we need the illusive green light to move forward.

The statistics are frightening though, something like 96% of film scripts never get made due to lack of finance, so the question has to be asked, why do I feel so positive? It’s simple and “no”, I am not mad, I just believe in this script totally and know that when the right person reads it, they will share my passion and get behind ‘Resistance’.

I know it might not happen straight away, even though I would like it to, but I am also aware that we need to do this properly and that sometimes means waiting for the right people to discover us. In an ideal world, I would love to shoot Resistance in October 2010, and know that we will be completely ready to shoot then, but who lives in an ideal world?

Thank-you all for the kind words you have sent and for the support you are showing Resistance.

Si

Let me start my blog PDF Print E-mail

Let me start my blog, by thanking you for taking the time to visit us. Your support really is important to us, especially at this early stage. Allow me to introduce the team to you, which at the moment is small, but very determined and incredibly talented. I really should start with Caitlin McCarthy, as she takes credit for getting this project started in the first place. I first read this script at a time when I was getting scripts sent to me every day and this was the one that jumped off of the page and stayed in my head. I read it for the second time three days later and it was even better than the first time, it simply moved me to tears. Thanks to Caitlin’s work, we have the makings of a truly great movie.

Then there’s me. My name is Si and I am the director of Resistance. I am fortunate enough to have been given this remarkable story to tell. I am currently working on getting the backbone of my crew together and looking for the right people to head up the various departments. Again, to continue my ‘lucky’ theory, I feel so fortunate to have made contact with some very talented and committed people and it fills me with even more confidence going into the months ahead.

The long journey ahead is going to be a bumpy ride, but one that I am happy to share with you and will pull no punches. When it’s going great, I will sing it from the rooftops, but when we have a hiccup, I will share that too. Thanks again for sharing our journey. You are more than welcome to sign up to our newsletter and receive all of the updates first hand.
